Nonprofit Professionals Giving Back
Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group is committed to building the capacity of the nonprofit sector and its staff. It is the theme that runs through everything we do, and it is what drives us to commit a percentage of our annual profits back into the sector. From our minds, our hearts, and our wallets, we do this because it is who we are, it is where we came from, and it is the right thing to do.
Giving from Our Minds:
We teach others what we know so that they can do it themselves. This comes in the form of partnering with nonprofit associations, foundations, and universities to provide in depth and informative sessions to nonprofits and their leaders so that they can make better decisions in the fulfillment of their missions
We commit resources to pro-bono work and allow our staff to use their knowledge and our materials if they choose to give of their time in this capacity to an organization dear to them.
Current partners include: Social Innovation Forum, Net Impact, Young Nonprofit Professionals Network, George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management,
and the Asian Task Force for Domestic Violence.
Giving from Our Hearts:
We encourage our staff to sit on boards of
and volunteer with nonprofit organizations whose missions are near to their hearts.
Our staff currently serves Strong Women Strong
Girls, Newton Montessori School, Camp Starfish,
Disciplines of Christ Church of the United
States and Canada, Outdoor Classroom, Career
Collaborative, and the Sierra Club, among
others.
We commit to doing a firm-wide service projects
once a year in conjunction with our annual
meeting. We are currently in the planning stages
of our 2009 retreat and are accepting proposals
for service projects.
Giving from Our Wallets:
We set aside 1% of our profits to fund some of this activity. Part of that money is distributed to the nonprofits of choice our mentors and advisors, in their names and with gratitude for the wealth of knowledge which they have bestowed upon us. We will also begin to offer in the near future company matching for employee charitable giving.
As a firm, we are deeply committed to the development of nonprofit professionals and know from experience that, sometimes, good candidates need just a little extra investment to make them first-rate leaders ready to unleash world-changing potential. As such, the only stipulation we put on our advisors in their direction of these donations is that they take the form of investments in individual leadership on the precipice of greatness but for some time to think, breathe, be mentored, or take a class or two.
In 2008, we were pleased to support many nonprofits
and their leaders, including the National Breast
Cancer Foundation, Strong Women Strong Girls, Heads
Up, Boys & Girls Clubs, the Food Project, Social
Innovation Forum, The Massachusetts Nonprofit
Network, the American Red Cross, the Asian Task
Force Against Domestic Violence, Federated
Dorchester Neighborhood Houses, the Family Nurturing
Center, and more.
