The Duke Endowment is seeking nominations and applications for an Associate Director of Learning & Evaluation. Reporting to the Director of Evaluation, William Bacon, the Associate Director will play an influential role in building the Endowment’s capacity and culture for continuous learning and improvement, while serving as a strategic partner to program teams in continuing to strengthen and innovate methods of evaluation and measurement across the organization.
Under the new leadership of President Rhett Mabry, the Endowment continues to fulfill the legacy of James Buchanan Duke through its work to help people and strengthen communities in North Carolina and South Carolina by nurturing children, promoting health, educating minds, and enriching spirits. In pursuit of that vision, the Associate Director will be a critical partner to the Director and leadership of the Endowment in building strategies of continuous learning, and stewarding an internal commitment to knowledge-sharing, reflection and inquiry, and learning from failure. The Associate Director will also contribute to the development and refinement of the Endowment’s programmatic planning and evaluation activities, and will partner with program teams in the development of robust evaluation strategies across the Endowment’s areas of work. The Associate Director will collaborate closely with program and communications teams to synthesize learning to share with the philanthropic, nonprofit, and local communities, championing the sharing of knowledge and learning within and across sectors.
The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree and at least seven to ten years of demonstrated experience working at the intersection of program evaluation and learning, and in the development of organizational learning systems and tools. S/he will bring significant experience working flexibly to identify and deploy effective methods for analysis and learning and will be a collegial, collaborative, and accessible leader. The ideal candidate will have a strong consultative and strategic voice and highly developed interpersonal and relational skills, along with significant maturity, judgment, and people management skills. Experience in, or close partnership with, philanthropic or other grantmaking entities is preferred.
