Dear Laura,
Thank you for subscribing
to our job seeker
newsletter.
In this edition, you'll
find helpful tips,
a feature
article covering a topic central to your
search, as
well
as information regarding our consulting
services.
This
newsletter is meant to help you in your
search. To
that end, your feedback is appreciated so
that we
may continue to improve what we offer.
Setting the Right Tone: Action Verbs that Count
Verbs may take one of three distinct
forms: occurrences (become, happen), states of
being (are, seem, be) or actions (scale,
strategize, bungee jump).
Save your resume from reading like
a "to-do" list by making it into a "ta-da" list with action
verbs.
Action verbs frame your
experiences in terms of the movement towards a goal.
Without action verbs, your resume reads flat, and
without a variety of them, your writing reads even
flatter.

What We're "Reading" This Month
We've thrown over the professional
reading this month for a summer beach page turner,
but in an effort to continue to build your skill set, we'd
love to share with you an online workshop of one of
our favorite career writers, Marci Alboher.
Have you considered starting a business
as an encore to a successful career or as the starting
point for a new direction in life? Many women have.
For a look at the opportunities and challenges women
face when pursuing their entrepreneurial dreams later
in life, tune in to this Webcast on Thursday, July 17,
2008.
Panelists include: Marci Alboher, the "Shifting Careers" columnist for The New York Times; Marc Freedman, founder and CEO of Civic Ventures; and Rebecca White, Ph.D., professor of business and entrepreneurship at Northern Kentucky University.
