Services for Nonprofits

We offer unbundled search services to those nonprofits that need highly tailored services or cannot afford fully retained search. Most of our clients choose a la carte from our offerings as their needs demand.

We provide packaged or hourly consulting in: job description preparation, outreach, resume screening, interviewing, reference checking, search committee management, and negotiation.

We are also available to train board and staff in any or all of these areas.

Our Commitment to Diversity

We make every effort to present diverse pools of qualified candidates for each search. In 2007, we closed 40% of our searches with minorities and 32% with female minorities.

Hello!

Thank you for your interest in our employer newsletter.

In this edition, you'll find helpful tips, a feature article covering a topic central to hiring for nonprofits, as well as information regarding our consulting services. This newsletter is meant to help you in your hiring processes.

To that end, your feedback is appreciated so that we may continue to improve what we offer.

Hiring a Great Fundraiser in
a New Economic Reality

Nonprofit organizations are facing greater than ever financial challenges in this new economy: funding is being cut dramatically sector-wide, invested funds are skydiving in their value, and donors are losing large percentages of their fortunes. Many donors and foundations are wondering if they can still follow through with their commitments, leaving nonprofits scrambling to find the next new dollar.

So what does this mean for development professionals and the nonprofits that employ them? Nonprofits should treat the uncertain economy as an opportunity to re-evaluate their organizations from the top down and remind everyone of their core mission. Next year, nonprofits are going to be more cautious about hiring new employees and candidates will be more careful about choosing where to work.

In our feature article this month, you can learn some tips from Ellen Sibley, Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group Vice President and in-house development search guru. Nonprofits cannot afford to hire an ineffective development professional, whether at the Chief Development Officer level or as a development associate. Based on our deep experience filling development positions across the sector, we've come up some best practices that nonprofits will need to utilize in these uncertain times.

Nonprofit Professionals Advisory Group Partners with
the Social Innovation Forum

As part of our Nonprofit Professionals Giving Back Program, we have partnered with the Social Innovation Forum to provide strategic training to current and former Innovators and Finalists. By lifiting the veil of the secretive search firm, Nonprofit Professionals was able to teach these nonprofit executives, managers, and board members how to hire like the pros.

According to Susan Musinsky, Director of the Social Innovation Forum, "This is truly one of the best social sector trainings I've seen. The Social Innovation Forum commends [their] efforts to expand the impact of [their] work to reach organizations much too small to hire a search firm but who desperately need the guidance that [they] provided."

What We're Reading

While some nonprofits are chronically under funded and understaffed, others can raise a million dollars at a single event. Companies call them when they are seeking cause-related partners. Their boards are full of energetic, knowledgeable, and connected people. They have grown steadily over the last decade. They are the go-to groups on their issues, the place to work, and the leaders in their fields.

Charismatic Organization

New from our friends Shirley Sagawa and Deb Jospin comes The Charismatic Organization, a sure to be best-seller offering a guide to reframing nonprofit work so that organizations can expand their resource base and sphere of influence to further their missions and achieve greater impact.
