Hello!

Thank you for subscribing to our job seeker newsletter.

In this edition, you'll find helpful tips, a feature article covering a topic central to your search, as well as information regarding our consulting services.

This newsletter is meant to help you in your search. To that end, your feedback is appreciated so that we may continue to improve what we offer.

Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve When You Interview

You're called in for an interview for the job that could launch your encore career. The standard advice would be to promote your achievements, but that may not be the best strategy. Instead, voice your passion about this new stage in your life and share the "aha!" moment that set you on your new path.

Job seekers transitioning into the nonprofit sector are often filled with assumptions and expectations about the sector itself, some true and some not. Likewise, the nonprofit sector is teeming with assumptions and expectations about these job seekers. To avoid being stereotyped, encore careerists need to stand out in a different way.

Figure Out Your Issue Area:
What Interests You, What Excites You, What Must You Impact?

Are you considering a move to the nonprofit sector? If so, there are over 1.9 million registered nonprofits with the Internal Revenue Service, and that's not just counting soup kitchens, homeless shelters and schools. If you are seriously considering a sector switch, this checklist will help you determine what interests you and what drives you. Job seeking in the nonprofit sector can be overwhelming especially if you aren't certain about what motivates and excites you. Take some time with this list, and it should make your choices more manageable. This checklist and other helpful tools can also be found in Laura Gassner Otting's book on sector switching called Change Your Career: Transitioning to the Nonprofit Sector.
