National AmeriCorps Names Executive Director

We are pleased to announce that National AmeriCorps has named Ben Duda as Executive Director of AmeriCorps Alums, a national network of over half a million alumni from the AmeriCorps national service forming a community of experienced volunteer leaders with a vision of a more perfect America.

Executive Director Named for the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis

Beth brings twelve years of executive search experience with market-driven organizations and a lifelong dedication to volunteerism and political activism to her work at the Nonprofit Professional Advisory Group. Her exposure to senior leadership teams, decision making, and succession planning within Fortune 50 corporations, as well as small to mid cap technology companies, equips Beth with a unique lens with which to analyze mission-driven opportunities and deliver thoughtful and actionable results.

Authored by Nicholas Long, director of global studies and associate professor of public and community service studies at Providence College and Cynthia Gibson, senior vice president at The Philanthropic Initiative, a Boston-based philanthropic advisory firm.

From Command to Community outlines how the notion of leadership is changing dramatically, fueled by an array of cultural forces such as technology, globalization, and demographic shifts. These and other changes are requiring a new approach to leadership education-one focused less on the individual and "position" and more on collaboration, community problem-solving, globally-focused, transparent, authentic, and results-oriented.

Given the role that higher education has played in helping to advance new forms of education, a call is made on these institutions to start thinking differently about leadership and to create opportunities for young people to apply their leadership models in organizations and communities across the country. The book also highlights examples of how some campuses are incorporating these new approaches to leadership education, which emphasize relationship over position and public action over attainment.
