The University Park Campus School (UPCS) in Worcester, MA serves as a clinical training and demonstration site for practitioners in the Institute training program. UPCS has been recognized as a national model school by the EdTrust, the Alliance for Excellent Education, the National Association for Secondary School Principals, and others for its outstanding record of achievement and has hosted formal trainings for over 500 visiting educators in the last three years. We are seeking an individual with a track record of success working with underrepresented students to help develop and deliver the leadership training curriculum. This person should have experience leading a successful urban secondary school and a passion for improving the college-going rate and success for students historically underrepresented in higher education. This person should also have knowledge of the research on best practice in school leadership and instruction and experience developing training materials and delivering professional development to adult learners. This position reports to the Managing Director, UPCS Institute for College-Readiness.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the overall development of a high-impact professional development program for leaders of new small secondary schools based on successful instructional and culture building practices of UPCS. This individual will be responsible for writing several training modules as well as coordinating the work of consultants.

  • Manage day-to-day aspects of the leadership trainings including coordinating training content and sequencing of training modules with local partner school development organizations, developing agendas for trainings, and preparing materials.

  • Travel to partner sites in states within the US to deliver leadership training modules, and provide coaching and guidance to local leadership trainers employed by client organizations.

  • Provide support to training participants around their progress though phone, email, video conference and other means.

  • Collaborate in development of online modules and training materials and use of webinars and video conferencing to deliver training and coaching support.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • At least 7 years of experience working in a leadership position in urban schools or educational settings focused on preparing underserved students to the highest academic standards. Experience in small school environment a plus.
  • Commitment to a standards-based approach to engaging all students in a rigorous college preparatory curriculum.
  • Experience developing training materials for organizational leaders and educators.
  • Experience designing and delivering professional development programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of research on effective practices and school designs for boosting the achievement of underrepresented youth.
  • Ability to work collaboratively to advance a complex and multifaceted agenda
  • Willingness to travel in various states in the US 4 -6 days per month (can vary from month to month)
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Experience working with multi-cultural and diverse groups (knowledge of issues for Latino students and other students of color helpful).
  • Masters degree or higher.

This position is located in our Worcester office.

 

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
