Accounting Manager (NYC)

The Accounting Manager will play a significant role along with the Controller, Finance Directors and CFO in leading the Finance Division. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for general accounting including certain transaction processing activities (e.g. procurement and accounts payable and payroll) and the analysis and accounting for investments, charitable gift annuities and other split interest agreements and other areas. He/She will play a crucial role in developing and reviewing financial analyses and journal entries. Candidates require advanced technical accounting and not-for-profit knowledge and U.S. GAAP skills. The Accounting Manager will ensure that disbursement functions are operating smoothly and all reconciliations and analysis are timely and accurately prepared; interact with PPFA staff and management to ensure that all projects are completed in an accurate, timely, customer-friendly, and professional manner; and will help ensure adherence to accounting controls. In addition to daily responsibilities for this role, the Accounting Manager will participate in the following special or time sensitive projects: a) participate and assists in the preparation for the annual external audit and IRS Form 990 filings of PPFA and its consolidated entities; b) prepare quarterly charitable gift annuity program analyses for presentation to the Investment Sub-Committee and Finance Committee; c) work closely with Finance staff and external consultants on implementation of a general ledger system; and d) ensure staff are trained as needed in all necessary regulatory matters and new accounting pronouncements.

The Laboratory Services Cooperative (LSC) is owned by Planned Parenthood (PP) affiliate members. It provides rapid, high quality laboratory testing for PP patients and creates a significant source of new revenue to help fund affiliate program and services. The LSC is one of the only cooperative laboratories in the country, authorized as a cooperative hospital service organization (501e). As a cooperative, the members (PP affiliates) share expenses and revenues. LSC began as an internal laboratory at Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest to provide STI testing for patients. It became a cooperative in 2010 and now provides laboratory services to several other PP affiliates. The LSC is poised for quick growth as it moves toward its strategic goal of creating a national presence and tripling the size of its current membership and revenue. The laboratory is located just outside of Seattle in Bremerton, Washington and currently operates with a several million dollar operating budget. The President will provide strategic, high-growth leadership as LSC navigates a changing healthcare and political landscape. Under the President’s direction, LSC will work closely with LSC staff, PPFA management staff, and affiliate staff and outside vendors to rapidly expand current lab services to affiliates across the Federation. In the initial months the President will be challenged to develop a robust business development plan that leverages short term opportunities as well as builds a roadmap for longer term growth. Included in this plan is the development of a sophisticated infrastructure, including business expansion and growing collaborative partnerships. As part of LSC’s longer term growth plan, the President will evaluate the impact of online health services/service delivery and provide guidance and execution on necessary changes to financial models, operational roadmaps and technology infrastructure needs. An effective President possesses extensive strategic planning experience in the ability to look at contingency planning, the delivery of online health services and, with health care reform implementation, the opportunities that may exist to expand the portfolio of services that can be made available to affiliates and partners. With a nimble and lean staff, the President will have confidence in both managing direct employees & vendors as well as being in the sole role of adding affiliate customers, and evaluating technologies with a solid understanding of regulatory, compliance and insurance billing issues. The President also needs to ensure the ability to operationalize his/her vision in coordination with a clear understanding of day to day lab functioning issues. Positioned for growth, the President will provide both vision and execution in their first year in moving LSC intripling the number of affiliates served as well as associated revenue. The President reports to the LSC board and liaisons with PPGNW, PPFA and PP affiliates.

Fellowship, Office of the President (NYC)

The OOP Fellow assists in the Office of the President. The OOP Fellow assists in all content and operational areas including scheduling, operations/infrastructure, special events, strategic planning and special projects. Director of Data Solutions - Voxent (Virtual)

There are four meetings a year. Interest in and commitment to remaining current with rapidly changing developments in the information technology arena by meeting with vendors and attending technology conferences is also important. Senior Director of Research (NYC)

The Senior Director of Research leads and supports strategies to improve the health care in the Federation and its health centers through research, with a focus on health services research, patient outcomes research, and large clinical trials, as well as support for affiliate led studies. The Director of Research reporting to the Senior Advisor of Medical Affairs and in close partnership with the Director of Clinical Quality and Senior Director of Medical Services will focus on developing projects that will most benefit the Federation’s health centers and their clinical staff,. Along with ad hoc data collection, the research team will utilize the PPFA data warehouse, which is growing rapidly as affiliates adopt use of Electronic Health Records, with standardized common data elements making this resource suitable for research. In this newly designed leadership role, the Director of Research will work closely with the Federation’s Medical Directors to ensure that we are meeting their needs as stakeholders and will fully utilize the resources of the National Office to include the Data Analytics team (DA), Affiliate Services team (ASD), CAPS and Voxent.

In order to more efficiently execute this plan, Planned Parenthood has created the position of Managing Director, Office of Chief Development Officer (CDO). The Managing Director will work as the key coordinator in an organization moving with ambitious speed on a multitude of fronts. As the link between the Senior Management Team and the CDO, the Managing Director will maintain awareness of progress towards goals on specific projects and overarching plans across the organization, and keep the CDO well informed on a day-to-day basis. With the unique vista, s/he will also coordinate teams and suggest additional resources or cross-department collaboration as necessary. The Managing Director will drive as part of their portfolio the project management of Strategic Initiatives related to the organization's five year strategic plan and coordinate on behalf of Development these overarching initiatives. The ideal candidate will be able to manage both the smallest details while maintaining a high-level view, must be an exceptional project manager, and be able to build trusted relationships across dotted line organizational charts. Speechwriter to the President (NYC)

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is currently seeking an experienced speechwriter. S/he will play an instrumental role in developing core speech content for the President of PPFA. The speechwriter will be responsible for drafting full-length speeches, brief remarks, talking points and speech frameworks for the President, and from time to time key senior staff. The position is based in New York City. Reporting to the VP of Communications, the Speechwriter will partner closely with the PPFA President, the Office of the President, divisional heads and other key leaders across the country to develop original content and ensure that key messages are consistently communicated. In addition, the Speechwriter will monitor speeches given by other healthcare, policy and political leaders, identify effective speech techniques, integrate model approaches into PP speeches and serve as a thought partner to the President, Executive VP and VP for Communications on effective speechmaking. The primary focus of the position is writing speeches, but it will also include writing and/or editing other content, such as op-ed pieces. Note: This is a temporary staff position for six months. After a six-month period, the position may become permanent.

Senior Director, Online Health Services (NYC)

The Senior Director of Online Health Services for Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) will drive the building of a new business initiative within the organization both in the hiring and training of staff and the overall strategic planning, program design and pilot implementation. The Senior Director will partner closely with the VP of Health Information Technology (HIT) and Business Initiatives in the business planning, reimbursement strategy, technology department, legal process and marketing strategy for online health services and, in partnership with affiliate partners, will quickly engage in a two-state pilot within the first six months while adding several additional pilot participants by 2014. The Senior Director will provide strategic, high-growth leadership as PPFA navigates a changing healthcare and political landscape. In the initial months the Senior Director will be challenged to develop a robust business development plan that leverages short-term opportunities as well as builds a roadmap for longer-term growth. Included in this plan is the development of a sophisticated infrastructure, including business expansion and growing collaborative partnerships with healthcare providers. As part of expansion beyond the initial pilot year, the Senior Director will evaluate the role of online health services/service delivery and provide guidance and execution of financial models, operational roadmaps and technology infrastructure needs.
