The 7 Lakes Alliance, a newly merged organization that combines the unique assets and impressive histories of the Maine Lakes Resource Center and the Belgrade Regional Conservation Alliance, is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Chief Executive Officer to lead the organization in advancing land and water conservation in the Belgrade Lakes region.
The newly formed organization seeks to engage local communities in protecting clean water, well stewarded land, and a vibrant economy for the benefit of all. Combining cutting-edge scientific knowledge, respect for the region’s natural heritage and local traditions, inclusive priority setting, and collaborative problem solving, 7 Lakes Alliance will create a culture of conservation that celebrates and protects the area’s geographically and economically diverse community. The CEO will lead the newly formed entity in advancing land conservation and watershed management efforts in the region.
As a result of the recent consolidation, 7 Lakes Alliance seeks a seasoned leader who is passionate about environmental stewardship and committed to advancing the new mission of conserving the land and waters of the Belgrade Lakes region for all. Water quality has been deteriorating as a result of excessive phosphorous and invasive milfoil. The new CEO will be charged with leading conservation efforts to address these and other critical threats.
With over 1,200 members, 7 Lakes Alliance (through the efforts of its parent organizations) has successfully conserved nearly 8,000 acres of land, and is actively monitoring and advancing water quality in the region. 7 Lakes Alliance works in partnership with affiliate lake associations across the region, government entities, and other conservation and education groups to preserve the area’s natural resources, maintain public access for recreation, and provide environmentally-based educational opportunities.
Reporting to a Board of Directors, the CEO will oversee a team of seven, advance the mission and vision of the newly merged organization, oversee internal operations including budget, finance and information management, lead fundraising and development efforts, and oversee key program initiatives. S/he will contribute to strategic planning processes and have excellent relationship building skills to further key partnerships with Colby College and watershed municipalities and businesses, and cultivate support internally and externally for the work of the 7 Lakes Alliance.
The CEO will have executive leadership experience, excel in relationship building across sectors – and with diverse stakeholders – and represent the organization in a credible and influential way. S/he will be a dynamic and engaging communicator, both verbally and in writing. The CEO will develop and enhance existing program initiatives that have a positive impact on the water quality of the Belgrade Lakes. The CEO will be based in Belgrade Lakes, ME.
The ideal candidate will be impact oriented, providing strategic leadership and execution of the goals of the 7 Lakes Alliance. S/he will know how to leverage and nurture relationships, establish program and team goals, and have a track record of success in fundraising and development. The CEO will have experience and an unwavering commitment to land and water conservation, along with a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to community engagement in watershed management.
