Website: Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, a leading organization that inspires meaningful connections among people, plants, and nature through horticulture, education, and research, is seeking nominations and applications for the position of Major Gifts Officer.

Since opening its doors in 2007, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens (CMBG) has quickly become New England’s largest botanical garden, welcoming over 190,000 visitors in the past year to its unique coastal location. Originally designed to accommodate just 40,000 guests per year, the Gardens is anticipating continued growth in the number of visitors annually, and has an ambitious plan for expansion and enhancement of current programs and facilities.  The Major Gifts Officer will play a key role in this effort by developing and managing a portfolio of individual prospects and donors, working in partnership with the Director of Philanthropy and others to deepen existing stakeholder relationships and cultivate new ones.

Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is committed to connecting people of all abilities, ages, and socio-economic backgrounds to plants and nature.  The Gardens is poised for growth and has identified several key priorities that are part of its plans for expansion.  CMBG is working to complete a capital campaign designed to raise $40 million by 2021.  Funds secured will be used to fulfill a master plan, with exciting new programs and facilities to meet the needs and ignite the imaginations of visitors.

As a leader in plant research, the Gardens plans to establish a research facility with a propagation house and trial gardens.  CMBG’s master plan also includes a glass conservatory to create year-round capacity, with seasonal displays such as orchids or spring bulb shows.

Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy, the Major Gifts Officer will be experienced in fundraising, and more specifically in managing a portfolio of high level donors and prospects.  The ideal candidate will have excellent relationship building skills, and proficiency in database software programs.  S/he will work effectively with colleagues across the organization, and build relationships with key community leaders and other external partners to achieve organizational goals and objectives.
