The Center for Reproductive Rights, the premier global legal organization dedicated to advancing women's reproductive health, self-determination, and dignity, seeks nominations and applications for the position of Senior Global Advocacy Advisor. The Center’s mission is straightforward and ambitious: to advance reproductive health and rights as fundamental human rights that all governments around the world are legally obligated to protect, respect, and fulfill. Headquartered in New York City, the Center has regional offices in Bogotá, Geneva, Kathmandu, Nairobi, and Washington, D.C. and a diverse staff of more than 150 professionals. Its annual operating budget is approximately $29 million, the result of an extraordinary growth trajectory. The Center is now poised for a new phase of significant expansion through its current and next Strategic Plan.
The Senior Global Advocacy Adviser is a new role developed to support the Center’s increasing presence in the humanitarian sector. Under the Center’s new Strategic Plan, the Center’s Global Advocacy program is expanding to include reproductive rights in conflict. The new SGAA will play a key role in the Center's Global Advocacy team in developing and implementing strategies to ensure protection for reproductive rights and access to reproductive healthcare, with a focus on the humanitarian sector. It will involve developing and implementing advocacy strategies at the UN Security Council; cultivating relationships with global coalitions, NGOs, UN agencies, and UN missions and bilateral donors; and conducting legal and policy analysis on positioning reproductive health and human rights in conflict and crisis with global policymakers and processes. This position directly supervises two key roles for the Center’s conflict program - the Program Manager and a Legal Researcher. This position reports to the Director of Global Advocacy, and partners closely with Global Advocacy Advisers, other Legal and Advocacy Advisers in the Global Legal Program, as well as staff in the Development and Communications programs.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate commitment to the Center’s work to advance reproductive rights and will bring at least 7 years of professional experience in global human rights and humanitarian organizations with specific experience developing and implementing strategies to influence UN negotiation processes. Additionally, s/he will be a coalition builder with outstanding legal and policy analysis skills and experience working in internationals settings. S/he will embody the values of collaboration, innovation, and a “can-do, will-do” attitude to advance the Center’s Global Advocacy work. An advanced degree in human rights, women’s rights, public health, international development, or a related field is required.
