Carolyn’s approach to executive search is grounded in her experience as an Executive Director and her passion for the nonprofit sector’s role in catalyzing change and addressing society’s most pressing issues. She joined NPAG in 2007, and her search portfolio has spanned the philanthropic, direct service, policy/advocacy, health, and education sectors, and brings specific expertise in the unique challenges of leadership in internationally focused nonprofits.

Prior to joining NPAG, Carolyn served as the Interim Executive Director and on program staff at the Foundation for International Understanding Through Students (FIUTS), a community-based nonprofit organization that fosters peace through international friendship and global understanding located at the University of Washington in Seattle. At FIUTS, she built campus wide orientation programs, expanded student engagement and cultural exchange opportunities, and launched new leadership training initiatives.

A passionate advocate for diversity, life-long learning, and cross-cultural experiences, Carolyn has lived on five continents and speaks conversational Spanish and basic Russian. She has worked in partnership with the Fulbright Commission in Russia to expand partnerships and learnings between the community college system in the United States and its counterparts in Russia. Carolyn has served on various boards and search committees in a volunteer capacity and led anti-racism trainings to deepen organizations’ understanding and analysis of structural racism.  

Carolyn holds a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the University of Illinois and a Master of Education in Student Development Administration from Seattle University. She is based in Washington, DC. Her recent clients have included the New York State Health Foundation, Trust for America’s Health, Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids, and the Children’s Institute, Inc.
